Schedule a bulky, special or e-waste pickup (furniture, appliances, electronics)
Provided by: City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services (City of Raleigh)
Schedule a curbside pickup for household items that don’t fit in your City cart. Bulky loads (furniture, mattresses) and special loads (appliances, extra bags) have a fee on your utility bill. E-waste pickup is free.
Ways to do it
- Customer Support: call 919-996-3245
- Solid Waste Services: email sws@raleighnc.gov
What you need
- Your name, property address and phone number
- A description of the items
Steps by phone
- Call Customer Support at 919-996-3245 to schedule. These pickups are booked by phone only.
- Give your name, address, phone number and a list of the items.
- On your scheduled day, put the items at the curb on flat ground, not in the street or an alley.
- Keep them 5 feet away from mailboxes, light poles and cars, and don’t block them in.
Good to know
- Cost: Bulky Load $35 (since April 1, 2026). Special Load $70. E-waste free (up to 4 items a week). Charges appear on your next utility bill.
- Who can use it: Residents who get City curbside garbage collection. Businesses are not eligible.
- Bulky Load: household items that don’t fit in a cart, such as furniture, mattresses and box springs, bed frames, bicycles (no tires), grills (propane tank removed), rugs, and push mowers (fuel emptied).
- Special Load: appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers, ranges), large exercise equipment, and extra bags of garbage or yard waste. The City’s page gives two different bag limits (15 and 24), so confirm when you call.
- E-waste: small plug-in appliances and electronics such as TVs, monitors, microwaves, toasters, lamps and vacuums. Collected on Mondays only since October 26, 2026.
- One load is up to 4 cubic yards, or 6 feet long by 3 feet wide by 4 feet high.
- To get a refund, cancel before noon on the business day before your pickup.
